Coconut Water: What It Is & My Favourite Coconut Water Drinks

Coconut water is one of my favourite ways to hydrate when I want something a little more refreshing than plain water. 🥥

It’s light, naturally slightly sweet and incredibly refreshing when chilled.

I first started drinking fresh coconut water while travelling in Thailand and Indonesia, where it’s often served straight from a freshly opened coconut.

You sip the cool coconut water through a straw and, once you’ve finished, you can scoop out the soft coconut meat inside – which is absolutely delicious. ✨

Ever since then it’s been one of my favourite drinks.

Especially after the gym or on warm days when I want something hydrating but still simple and refreshing.

What Is Coconut Water?

Coconut water is the clear liquid naturally found inside young green coconuts.

It’s often confused with coconut milk, but they’re quite different. Coconut milk is made from blended coconut flesh, whereas coconut water is the naturally occurring liquid inside the coconut.

Fresh coconut water has a light, slightly sweet flavour and naturally contains electrolytes such as potassium. Because of this, many people enjoy coconut water as a refreshing hydration drink, particularly after exercise or during warm weather.

Why People Drink Coconut Water

People often enjoy coconut water because it’s a refreshing and natural way to hydrate.

Some of the reasons coconut water has become so popular include:

Vita Coco is probably the most well-known coconut water brand and a really good place to start if you’re trying coconut water for the first time. The flavour is light, clean and very refreshing.
